Sports Development Project Update

Llantwit Major Town Council are delighted to confirm that their Sports Development Project has been given the green light.

This project has received funding through the Welsh Government Rural Communities – Rural Development Programme 2014-2020, which is funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and the Welsh Government.

Included in the project is; Installation of four lighting columns along the recreation field footpath, resurfacing of the tennis courts, and the replacement of the existing wooden bowls pavilion which will incorporate disabled access, a meeting room and changing facilities.

Councillor Evans, Chair of the Recreation & Building Committee states “These quality facilities will provide lasting benefits for the young and old of the Town. The Bowls Club and Tennis Club will have the excellent facilities as good as any in the Vale.”

The project total is £192,500 with £128,000 coming from the EAFRD grant. The remaining balance is being funded by the local bowls and tennis clubs as well as other organisations.

Councillor Foster, Chair of Finance reported “Both improvements have been achieved without any cost to the council tax payer. A lot of hard work was done to attract the grant and I am delighted with the outcome.”

The Town Council expressed interest in the grant in April 2017 and hope that the project will begin work later in September. We kindly ask if local residence could remain patient whilst the work is taking place.
